This is the soundtrack to the 2023 documentary by Éric Michel and Jacques Matthey, Le Mystère Lucie (Des Espions Contre Le Nazisme). It is accompanied by an album of music written for, but not used in, the film, Le Mystère Lucie (Dossier Secret), also released on Bandcamp in the near future.
Both albums showcase Ian's knack of mixing big tunes using electronic and orchestral sources, mixed with more hardcore industrial noise. Plus it's all spies and war, so what more could you want?
A spy network, led by the Jewish communist Sándor Radó in Switzerland, was instrumental in precipitating the victory of the Allies during the Second World War.
Radó received confidential strategic information from the highest levels of the Nazi state and in particular from the headquarters of the German army, from a deeply anti-Nazi Christian German, Rudolf Roessler, whom he never met. Roessler, codenamed Lucie because he was based in Lucerne, received his information from German supporters of the resistance, notably aided by members of certain industrial circles.
The exceptional work of these spies contributed to a victory on the Eastern Front but for a long time remained the greatest secret of the Second World War. 80 years later, the declassification of the archives allows us to rediscover this incredible story.
